USE COMPOST AS A FUEL AND RESOURCE

March 20, 2012 Posted by admin

In our day-to-day life we use a lot of resources some of them that are depleting fast. So we should now look into certain other alternative resources that will fulfill our requirements. Compost is one such resource. Compost is basically the aerobically decomposed remnants of organic materials of plants and animal origin.

USES OF COMPOST

Compost can be used for many purposes and now it has proved to be the best alternative for many other resources. Some of its uses are: -
* Compost is widely used for the agricultural purposes. It is one of the best alternatives for the chemical fertilizers. Also compost increases the fertility of the soil and also increases the water-retaining capacity of the soil. The organic elements present in it are very useful for the purposes of agriculture.
* Compost is also used for erosion control. It helps in the reduction of topsoil. Spreading a layer of compost over a distributed area of soil can do it. Compost berms and filter socks are either used alone or are used in conjunction with compost blankets to mitigate the impact of high-volume water discharges and flow.
* Compost can also be mixed with sand, clay, aged sawdust, and other materials to create an enriched mix for the landscapes. So compost can be used in landscaping, gardening and also weed control.
* Compost can also be used in Turf and Pasture management.
* Compost is also used as a fuel. With this advancement now many of the depleting sources of fuel such as Coal, Petroleum etc. can be given a break. As compost is a bio-fuel it can be easily prepared in the household also by following simple guidelines. Also there is no or very less chance of it being over. So as a fuel Compost has proved to be an excellent alternative.
* Compost is also used for certain special purposes such as Landfill cover, for constructing wetlands and Stream bank restoration.

CONCLUSION

So in this fast moving world and highly advanced world where the resources are being used more than what it should be, a resource and also an alternative fuel like Compost will of very great help. Also as Compost is dry in nature so it is very easy to apply just as a power.

Modern home furniture

January 27, 2012 Posted by admin

Introduction
Modern home furniture basically refers to furniture from the latter half of the 20th century and on into contemporary styles. Usually the designers use the term modern furniture more narrowly to refer to the furnishings manufactured in the post-war America, and to a lesser extent Europe. Modern home furniture experimented with new synthetic building materials, like vinyl and tubular metal, as well as developed an understated monochromatic color scheme, integrated modular elements with multiple uses, and featured curvilinear shapes.
Giving a new look to the furniture
Families reconceptualized their living spaces and demanded mass-produced, comfortable, affordable, and stylish furniture to match their new perspective. The era of modern home furniture was defined by the introduction of pedestal tables, modular sofas, sleek sideboards, shiny stools in place of chairs, and abstract light sources.
To usher in a futuristic design and give a modern look they turned to vinyl instead of leather, bright prints in place of dark brocades, acrylic and plywood rather than carved hardwood, and tubular steel instead of wrought iron. The new types of fabrication allowed to manufacture sturdy, oversized, non-symmetrical, and fluid furniture that redefined elegance as bright, open, and minimalist, in place of ornate.
Many pieces of modern home furniture fulfilled multiple functions and changed the organization of informal living spaces. Kidneys, ellipses, the s shapes replaced the circles, squares, and rectangles of old houses. The giant blocks of color added to the modular, puzzle-piece effect when they were set off against clear acrylic, blonde plywood, or shiny chrome. The Modern home furniture flaunted the style, yet perfectly complemented the new generation of families and their homes.
Conclusion

Home Furniture built in the modern way is safe and healthy and helps you to take care of yourself. It is a realistic expression of the present era. The Function, form and beauty synthesize in the simplest of ways to produce elegance and unity. Modern home furnishing encompasses furniture with unusual shapes and not much of height. These days the concept of low chairs and tables are very popular. In fact, the bookshelves, dressing tables and even beds and sofas are in stark contrast to the furniture of yester year.

Thus this should be taken into consideration that if the heating and cooling process is slow it will affect the energy efficiency of the appliance. For this purpose the label of the appliance should always be referred.

The amount and type of insulation used in the appliances greatly affects the energy efficiency of the heating appliances. The insulation used is for the purpose of conserving heat. Thus it heavily dependant on the amount and type of insulation used that how much heat is lost. Greater loss of heat will lead to greater consumption of fuel.

Check the size of the heating appliance

Choosing an appliance of the right size is of prime importance. The energy savings of the appliance depends on the size. Generally if energy is used to heat a small and a specific size then the energy savings are higher. Most of the appliances come with an energy tag this enables us with the knowledge regarding the energy consumption of the heating appliance.

Check the working speed of the appliance

To save a natural resource like gas is not only important to control one’s economy but also helps in improving national economy. Concerned efforts should be made towards achieving this goal of saving the energy and one of the ways of achieving is to opt for gas saving heating appliances in the kitchen.

Use fireplace for keeping house warm

December 27, 2011 Posted by admin

During severe winter storms, home heating system could be inoperative for as long as several days. To minimize discomfort and possible health problems during this time, conserve body heat by dressing warmly. Find or improvise an alternative heat source, like a fireplace or electric space heater and confine heating to a single room. Keep safety a foremost consideration. While chances of freezing to death in home are small, there is a greater danger of death by fire, lack of oxygen or carbon monoxide poisoning. To increase efficiency of available heat, close off all rooms accept the one to be heated. If using a vented stove or space heater, select a room with a stove or chimney flue.

How to select room for heating
Confine emergency heat to a small area and try to select a room on the warm side of the house, away from prevailing winds. Avoid rooms with large windows. Interior bathrooms probably have the lowest air leakage and heat loss. Basement can be a warm place in cold weather because the earth acts as insulation and minimizes heat loss. Isolate the room from the rest of the house by keeping doors closed, hanging bedding or heavy drapes over entryways or by erecting temporary partitions of cardboard or plywood. Hang drapes, bedding or shower curtains over doors and window.
Think safety first
Safety is of extreme importance in a heating emergency. Do not burn anything larger than candles inside home without providing adequate ventilation to the outside. Any type of heater should be vented. Connect the stovepipe to a chimney flue if at all possible. An electric oven was not designed for space heating. Do not burn outdoor barbecue materials such as charcoal briquettes inside – even in a fireplace. Do not try to use bottled gas in natural gas appliances. Have one person watch for fire whenever alternative heat sources are used. One person should also stay awake to watch for fire and to make sure ventilation is adequate. If any person feels drowsy or has a headache, it may be a sign of inadequate ventilation. Keep firefighting materials on hand. These may include dry powder fire extinguishers, a tarp or heavy blanket, sand, salt, baking soda and water.
